NOMAD x Ben Nobuto
Servant Jazz Quarters, N16 8JN , [Venue Details]This April, NOMAD and Ben Nobuto share the stage, with a performance that sits somewhere between a classical concert and a rave. They bring together strings, voice, piano and electronics, exploring music that is beautifully poignant, high-energy and alive.
Nobuto's music is at the heart of the programme, alongside music by Caroline Shaw, Juhi Bansal, and a brand-new commission from Lili Holland-Fricke.
NOMAD are a flexible ensemble built around three core artists: vocalist Iona Kaye and violinists Elena Orsi and Ailsa Burns. Together, they create intimate storytelling performances blending music with spoken word, movement, visual art and newly commissioned work. Alongside their story-led projects they collaborate closely with exceptional artists, sharing the stage as co-creators. Recent collaborators include children's author Michael Rosen and Senegalese percussionist Dudù Kouate. Dudù and NOMAD's debut collaborative album, Mother Tongue, will be released later this year.
Ben Nobuto is a British/Japanese composer, pianist and producer based in London. With a style described as ‘utterly contemporary’ (Manchester Collective) and ‘sonically dazzling’ (RPS Awards), his music explores themes of attention and fragmentation, drawing from internet culture and popular idioms in a playful, ironic and surreal manner.
